World children’s day

In honour of the humanitarian efforts led by UNICEF, the Mongolian post office issued a commemorative collection of stamps featuring depictions of native Mongolian children dressed in traditional Mongolian clothing.

Every year, the 20th day of November is defined by UNICEF as “World’s Children Day” with the goal to raise awareness of the efforts led by this United Nations’ Agency around the world. Today, being the most recognizable actor in the field of humanitarian aid, UNICEF leads the path of helping children globally while following the ambitious plans established by the United Nations: The Sustainable Developments Goals.

These goals were established in 2015 with the idea of ending poverty and famine, securing the health and safety of people in poorer societies and provide them with access to high quality education, cleaner energy and more – all by 2030.

The decade of 2020 – 2030 is considered as the decade of action by both the United Nations and its partners. The efforts that they lead today will have an impact on tomorrow.

Will their efforts be successful? The answer will get clearer in the near future.

The Stamp

Mongolian Children’s Clothing (UNICEF Children’s Day Collection) was first issued by the Mongolian Post Office on June 1, 1977.

The postal stamp has a perforation value of comb 12 and a size of 40 x 60 mm. While the front side of the stamp is in good condition, it seems it once belonged to a post letter as you can see bits of colourful patterns stuck on the back side.

It has a face value of 10+5 Mongolian möngö.

The printing of the illustration was made with the process of offset lithography. It has the UNICEF emblem printed in the top right corner Below the emblem is a native Mongolian child dressed in a long red and white fur coat. The illustration is set during the winter season. The ground is covered with some traces of snow and the golden remains of crop fields (or reflections of the sun), with some sheep walking around in the background.
